Using the Alphabet Palette
The Alphabet Palette is a powerful tool to help manage foreign alphabets, characters, and words.
- To open the Alphabet Palette go to the "Window" menu at the top of the Crossword Forge page, then select Alphabet Palette.
- The Alphabet Palette displays the alphabet that is currently set in "Languages" tab in the "Preferences" menu. Here the default langage is set to English. The capitalization arrow will show the character set in capital letters, as displayed on the right.
- To change your language of preference, go to "Preferences" (in Windows Preferences is found under the "Edit" menu and for Macs it is found in the "Crossword Forge" menu). From "Preferences" select the "Languages" tab. Below is a picture of the dialog where the user has just switched to Arabic (1). Notice the labels for across and down are now given in Arabic (2). Notice also that the language is now "Right to Left" (3) and the Arabic character set is given in the Alphabet box(4). Any new puzzle created by this user will be defaulted to Arabic.
- If we now open the Alphabet Palette we see the characters and symbols for the Arabic language.
Notes:
- The Alphabet Palette can be used to enter characters into the puzzle.
- The Alphabet Palette is also available for puzzles on the web, where the above also applies.
- The "Insert Character Joiner" button on the bottom of the Alphabet Palette inserts a joiner of zero width, i.e. invisible, to bind characters together so they display in the same crossword square.
- Characters not normally included in a language set can be added to the preferences in the languages tab by inserting them in the Alphabet line.
